Announced on Thursday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is launching a unit for blockchain analysis and crypto-assets seizure.

Following the Justice Department’s largest-ever Bitcoin seizure, the FBI has formed a “virtual asset exploitation” section. It charged a married New York couple earlier this month with allegedly laundering bitcoins worth over $4.5 billion stolen in the 2016 hack of the cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex.
