XYO Network Teams Up with Former NFL Quarterback Michael Vick to Raise Funds for Animal Shelters

The blockchain start-up has announced its partnership with the former star quarterback Michael Vick to raise awareness – and funds – for animal welfare organizations and shelters across the US.

XYO network, a blockchain start-up that intends to put location data on the blockchain has partnered with four-time former NFL Pro Bowler Michael Vick. The company and Vick plan to collaborate and work together to use XYO Network’s blockchain protocol to “geomine” XYO tokens, the native cryptocurrency of the eco-system.

According to Business Wire, the funds generated by mining the tokens will be entirely donated to one or more leading animal rights and animal welfare organizations across the United States.

Vick’s Philanthropic Work

The former star quarterback turned businessman has been an avid philanthropist and regularly engages in community work. For Vick, the partnership is an opportunity to contribute to the social cause while at the same time being able to showcase the XYO brand and their technical capability.

Speaking about the new partnership, Vick states:

I’m excited to partner with this cutting-edge tech company whose products and services I can stand behind as we break new ground together, from the perspective of giving back. The XYO team and I walked through how we can use the technology they’ve created, and what we’ll be doing is impressive. XYO Network is skilled and fast-moving, and I’m glad we’re working together.

XYO Network’s Vision

XYO Network plans to bring blockchain technology to the real world by providing location data that is decentralized and trustworthy. According to the company, the technology will power innovations like self-driving vehicles, package-delivering drones, and smart cities in the future. The eco-system will be driven by the XYO cryptocurrency and will allow everyday consumers to track real-world items in real-time, right from their smartphones.

XYO currently has over 1 million location beacon devices circulating in the world. The project combines location beacons with IoT and mobile devices to deliver verified coordinates to run smart contracts and location-centric DApps.

The company is working on a concept that can potentially create a decentralized version of Google Maps that would power multiple industrial applications in the future. Whether such an idea will work remains to be seen. However, the animal welfare initiative with Michael Vick is sure to make the firm popular within the animal welfare activists.
