Google Launches New AI Model Gemini to Compete with ChatGPT

Google recently unveiled Gemini, its latest and “most powerful” artificial intelligence model, designed to rival the popular chatbot ChatGPT. This move is part of the company’s strategy to make AI more accessible and useful for everyone.

According to an announcement on November 6, Gemini comes in three variations: Gemini Ultra, Gemini Pro, and Gemini Nano. These variations are developed to handle specific tasks and address challenges for various users, including corporate customers.

The Three Pillars of Google’s Gemini

Google’s Gemini Ultra, the flagship model, is touted as the company’s largest and most capable AI model designed to understand different types of information, such as text, images, audio, video, and code.

The new AI tool excels in Massive Multitask Language Understanding (MMLU), surpassing human experts in math, physics, history, law, medicine, and ethics.

Google said it has the ability to comprehend nuances and reasoning in complex subjects, setting it apart from others. The tool promises a revolutionary leap in problem-solving and world knowledge.

The second variant, Gemini Pro, is built for developers and enterprises. It offers scalability across diverse tasks in the corporate world, helping companies scale their businesses and improve their productivity.

The tool will be accessible through the Gemini API in Google AI Studio and Google Cloud Vertex AI starting December 13.

For mobile developers, Google introduced Gemini Nano, which was developed explicitly for Android applications. This model is tailored to handle specific tasks efficiently on mobile devices, showcasing Google’s dedication to advancing mobile AI capabilities.

Gemini to Power Google’s Bard

Google attributed the development of its latest AI model to teams from various sectors in the company. The tech firm plans to license Gemini through Google Cloud, enabling seamless integration into multiple applications.

The company said the potential applications of Gemini are vast, ranging from enhancing customer service engagement through chatbots and product recommendations to aiding in content creation for marketing campaigns and blog content. The new tool is designed to handle versatile responsibilities for businesses worldwide.

“Gemini is the result of large-scale collaborative efforts by teams across Google, including our colleagues at Google Research. It was built from the ground up to be multimodal, which means it can generalize and seamlessly understand, operate across, and combine different types of information, including text, code, audio, image, and video,” said Sundar Pichai, CEO of the company.

The tool will also power Google’s products, including the Bard Chatbot and Search Generative Experience. This integration aims to revolutionize search queries with conversational-style responses.

Gemini is set to enhance Bard’s advanced reasoning, planning, and understanding capabilities. Google plans to launch “Bard Advanced” next year, complementing Gemini Ultra and empowering Bard with even more advanced models and abilities.

“Gemini is coming to Bard in Bard’s biggest upgrade yet. Gemini is rolling out to Bard in two phases: Starting today, Bard will use a specifically tuned version of Gemini Pro in English for more advanced reasoning, planning, understanding, and more. And early next year, we’ll introduce Bard Advanced, which gives you first access to our most advanced models and capabilities – starting with Gemini Ultra,” said Google.
