Cristiano Ronaldo to Debut NFT Collection on Binance this November

Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo, or CR7 as he is also known, is set to launch his debut non-fungible token (NFT) collection exclusively on Binance, the world’s leading blockchain ecosystem and cryptocurrency infrastructure provider November 18.

The five-time winner of the Ballon d’Or, one of the footballing world’s highest awards, announced via a tweet that the collection is an opportunity for fans to join his Web3 community and own iconic moments from his career.

“It was important to me that we created something memorable and unique for my fans as they are such a big part of my success. With Binance, I was able to make something that not only captures the passion of the game but rewards fans for all the years of support,” Ronaldo added in a press release from Binance.

According to the press release, the NFT drop is part of a multi-year partnership Binance has with Ronaldo. The partnership includes a global marketing campaign featuring the football legend intending to introduce his fans to Web 3 through the world of NFTs.

“We believe the metaverse and blockchain are the future of the internet. We are honored to collaborate with Cristiano to help more people understand blockchain and showcase how we are building Web3 infrastructure for the sports and entertainment industry,” said Binance Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer He Yi.

The release added that the inaugural CR7 collection would feature animated statues of Ronaldo with four rarity levels. The 45 highest value CR7 NFTs—5 super rare and 40 super rare—will be held for auction on the Binance NFT marketplace. The remaining 6,600 NFTs—600 rare and 6,000 normal—will be offered on Binance starting at 77 BUSD for the Normal rarity.

Similarly, each rarity level will come with its perks ranging from personal messages, autographed merchandise, access to future drops, mystery boxes, and entry into giveaways. According to the release, future drops of more pieces in the collection are also expected in early 2023.

Binance pushing global Web 3 adoption

The collection has been anticipated since July, when Binance and CR7 announced the NFT partnership. At the time, Binance also revealed that the partnership is the first of many to take the sports fandom experience to unprecedented levels.

Binance added that it would build on existing partnerships with the Argentine Football Association, the Brazilian Football Confederation, and professional sports clubs S.S. Lazio (IT) and FC Porto (PT) as part of the campaign to onboard billions of people to Web3.
