Volkswagen Iconic Van Is Being Reproduced as Electric Car
In a surprising revelation, Volkswagen has stated that it is reproducing the electronic version of its iconic van, and it is now known as ID. Buzz van. The production is scheduled for sale in multiple countries in Europe by September 2022.
The first citing of the pioneer microbus goes back to the 50s when it was manufactured and went on to become a cult phenomenon among the non-conformist generation during the 60s.
Buzz comes as a 5 seater for the European market while subsequent 6 or 7 seaters would be tailored for the American market, according to CNBC.
Reuters also reports that Volkswagen has revealed plans to introduce the van to the US market towards the end of 2023. It follows that over the past 10 years, Volkswagen has been developing new designs but none has made it to the production stage.
According to Volkswagen Chief Designer, Jozef Kaban, the T1 is a legend tracing back to the 1950s and is a representation of freedom and the democracy of mobility. He continued that the ID. Buzz is a direct DNA of the T1 with electric mobility and its sustainability features are characteristics of the present-day market demand.
Interestingly, the popular car manufacturer has been working on the vehicle for the past two decades with a similar product 2017’s EV called the ID Buzz gaining acceptance in the wider market.
Features of the All-Electric I.D Buzz Van
Volkswagen’s commitment to reproducing the legendary van has shocked many in the industry, and classic VW-brand enthusiasts cannot hide the excitement generated by the new vehicle.
The all-electric I.D Buzz is manufactured in Hanover in Germany, whilst the modules were outsourced from Volkswagen Group Components. The microbus uses an 82-kWh lithium-ion battery and runs at a top speed of 90 miles per hour. Subsequent versions may however consider using batters with varying power outputs, according to an official statement from Volkswagen.
In its design, the ID. Buzz has a circular “VW” logo on the front which is similar to the rest of the models. The only difference is that the logo is bigger for the ID. Buzz, which goes to pay tribute to the original design. The model also comes with large windows and it is expected that two-tone models of the vehicles would have Candy White roofs and V-shaped hoods.
Also, the lower part of the electric car would be available in Lime Yellow, Starlight Blue, Energetic Orange, and Bay Leaf Green.
